Mashed Sweet potatoes

Sweet potatoes are often considered to be a nutritional powerhouse. It is very rich in vitamins C, beta carotene and carbs. This recipe is a nice variation from the classic mashed potatoes. It is made with sweet potatoes and uses coconut milk instead of traditional cream or milk for mashing the potatoes. The use of garam masala balances the sweetness in the potatoes.

  • 1 Lb Sweet Potatoes
  • 5-6 Cloves Garlic
  • - - Salt and Pepper to Taste
  • 1/2 tsp Garam Masala
  • 1/2 Cup Coconut Milk
  • 3-4 tbsp Butter
  • 1 tsp Dill (for garnish)


  1. Wash, peel and cut the sweet potatoes into chunks. Boil water in a large pot. Add the potatoes, 2 cloves of garlic and salt to taste and cook for about 15 to 20 minutes until soft.
  2. Drain water from the pot and mash the potatoes with a masher or fork. Add coconut milk, garam masala and pepper to taste. Keep stirring until everything is blended well. Add melted butter along with finely chopped garlic. Adjust seasoning if needed. Garnish with dill. Serve warm.
